Become a Tree Tender!
Join thousands of other concerned citizens like yourself. Become one of the over 4,000 trained Tree Tenders® and help increase tree canopy cover in your community.
Tree Tenders® is a training program that empowers concerned residents to make dramatic strides towards restoring and caring for their local tree canopy. This training course was developed by the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) in collaboration with Penn State Extension Urban Foresters in Southeast PA.
The course is designed for lay people and experts alike.
Become one of the Tree Tenders restoring and tend-ing your part of the forest.
Since 1993, PHS has trained over 3200 Tree Tenders in 150 PA neighborhoods. Since 2004, the program has been supported by the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources. In 2008, the program expanded to Pittsburgh and other metropolitan areas, and since 2013, it has been available statewide. Nearly 2,000 additional Tree Tenders have since been trained.
Instruction is provided by DCNR’s Bureau of Forestry, in partnership with Penn State Extension, PHS, Tree Pittsburgh and other local urban forestry experts.
This workshop is eligible for 5 PCH CEUs.
