North Creek is a wholesale propagation nursery that specializes in growing starter plants and plugs of perennials, ornamental grasses, ferns, vines and shrubs with an emphasis on Eastern US native plants. Landscape Plugs provide planting solutions for ecological projects including storm water management, soil stabilization, landscape restoration and habitat establishment. North Creek strives to promote sustainable outdoor environments. The company vision is to be a leader in the development and practice of sustainable horticultural systems while ultimately delighting garden owners.

Owner Steve Castorani’s foresight nearly 30 years ago focused on sound ecological practices which includes supplying sustainably grown plant material to the nurseries and landscape designers for ecological installations. North Creek is a valuable resource for the growing interest in native plants and sustainable growing practices.

North Creek’s Research and Development (R&D) department plays a critical role in vetting which plants align with North Creek’s mission. The team maintains more than three acres of trial and demonstration gardens, and a living laboratory that includes rain gardens, bio-swales, storm water management-constructed wetland, a meadow, living wall, side-by-side evaluation gardens, and a green roof. The R&D team evaluates potential introductions to ensure that they are excellent garden and landscape performers in the mid-Atlantic region, are not be invasive or aggressive, and once established in an appropriate site, they must require no material inputs to maintain their ornamental value or garden worthiness.

The diverse plant communities in the trial gardens are also a valuable and inspiring resource for landscape designers and engineers. During this tour you will learn about individual species and complex plant communities with the potential to solve a variety of landscape design challenges.

Join tour guide, Scott Fisher who will share his plant expertise to inform and inspire you to explore new planting solutions. Join us for an exciting look behind the scenes of the North Creek propagation nursery as well as a visit to the test and trial gardens. Bring your questions to learn how to solve your specific design challenges. And bring a lunch to enjoy in the picnic area after the tour.
