Roots to Reentry ClassPHILADELPHIA - PHS Roots to Re-Entry (R2R) is a partnership between the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, Bartram’s Garden, Awbury Arboretum, Friends Hospital, KJK Associates, and the Philadelphia Prison System (PPS). Since 2010, R2R has provided intensive job training in landscape management and horticulture, as well as life skills support and job placement to prisoners from the city’s prison system. Program graduates are placed in high-demand, accessible jobs with year-round potential in the landscaping industry.

The Pennsylvania Horticultural Society (PHS) is a not-for-profit organization that annually presents the nation's largest indoor flower exhibit and also sponsors the most comprehensive urban greening program in the nation, Philadelphia Green. For over seven years, PHS has been partnering with the Philadelphia Prison System and other local organizations to work with inmates at the Northeast Prison Complex as part of the widely-heralded City Harvest program.

The target population is non-violent offenders on work release from the Philadelphia Prison System between the ages of 18-35 with a basic level of literacy and a strong interest in working in the landscaping industry. These offenders tend to be poor, low skilled, and face limited employment prospects upon reentry.

KJK Associates, a for-profit Philadelphia area landscape company with decades of experience and extensive industry contacts, as well as Moon Site Management, Liberty Tree and Landscape Management and nationally recognized Brickman Group work with the program.
