New High Tunnel Laws: Potential Glitch?

High TunnelsHARRISBURG – There is a potential glitch in the implementation of the new high tunnels laws, Acts 114 and 130 of 2013. These new laws clarify that high tunnels are not subject to real estate taxes.

Both laws take effect 60 days after they were signed into law by the governor on December 18 and 23, which for Act 114 was February 16 and Act 130 February 21.

Effective Dates of New Laws

The problem may come in that 2014 county real estate bills may have been issued before those effective dates. Whether a county will assert that it is due taxes levied before those implementation dates is unknown at this point. PLNA has not heard that it has been a problem so far.

Check your Tax Bill!

If you have high tunnels, please check your tax bills to make sure they are not being taxed. If you find that they are being taxed, call (800.898.3411 x101) or email Gregg Robertson at PLNA immediately. We will work with you to see if the high tunnels can be removed from your tax bill.
