Leonard Walter Sorensen, past PLNA president and honored award winner, passed away on July 28, 2014 at the age of 92.

Len was president of PLNA in 1981, received the Hall of Fame Award in 1984, was awarded Life Membership in 1995 and was honored with the Mummert Lifetime Achievement Award in 2001.

Len first worked as the manager and butcher in the family-owned Highland Superette grocery store in Camp Hill. His earlier interest in horticulture led him to expand the store offerings to lawn and garden supplies. By the mid-1950s, this expansion evolved into Highland Gardens, which remains a successful family-owned business.

Len was beloved husband to Margaret, father of daughter Nila S. Hill (Douglas) of Elkton, MD and son Larry W. Sorensen of New Cumberland, PA, grandfather and great grandfather.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, August 15th at 11:00am at Grace Lutheran Church, 1610 Carlisle Road, Camp Hill, PA.
