HARRISBURG - Governor Wolf, sworn in on January 20 as Pennsylvania’s 47th governor, has selected a cabinet that has many familiar faces from the Rendell Administration.

Here is how the three departments that most affect the green industry shape up.

Redding

Department of Agriculture

Heading up the Department of Agriculture (PDA) will be Russell Redding, who stepped down as dean of the School of Agriculture and Environmental Sciences at Delaware Valley College to accept the post. Redding served as a deputy secretary and from 2009 to 2011 served as secretary of the department under Rendell, the post he now holds under Wolf. Redding knows PLNA well, having received PLNA’s Green Industry Advocate award in 2010.

DunnDepartment of Conservation and Natural Resources

At the helm of the Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) is Cindy Dunn. Dunn has had long career at DCNR, serving as a deputy secretary in the Rendell administration. Most recently she was the president of PennFuture, a statewide environmental advocacy organization.

Department of Environmental Protection

Quigley

Governor Wolf has nominated John Quigley as secretary of the Department of Environmental Protection (DEP). Quigley served as secretary of DCNR under Rendell from 2009 to 2011.

Cabinet nominations are subject to confirmation by the Pennsylvania Senate. Barring unforeseen controversies, that process should be completed late this winter or early spring.

Other Appointments

In addition to these cabinet appointments, two other DEP secretaries that served under Rendell, Katie McGinty and John Hanger, have been appointed to high posts in the administration. McGinty has been named Wolf’s chief of staff and Hanger policy secretary. Neither post requires Senate confirmation.
