HARRISBURG - PLNA member Fred Strathmeyer, Jr.Fred Strathmeyer, Jr. of the Strathmeyer Companies has been appointed by governor Tom Wolf as deputy secretary at the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture.

Before assuming his new position at PDA, Strathmeyer had been vice president at The Strathmeyer Companies, a group of companies that include Strathmeyer Forests, Inc., Strathmeyer Landscape and Strathmeyer Christmas Trees. The Strathmeyer Companies were founded 83 yeas ago by Strathmeyer's great-grandfather.

Among Strathmeyer's new duties is overseeing the Bureau of Plant Industry, which is responsible for enforcing the Plant Pest Act, the Pesticide Control Act and the Noxious Weed Law. This bureau is deeply intertwined with the landscape and nursery industry.

As well, Strathmeyer will manage PDA's Bureau of Weights and Measures, which among many other responsibilities, regulates the labeling of plant containers.

PLNA wishes him well in his new position and will be doing all we can to assist him. It's great to have someone who knows our industry inside at PDA!
