New CDL Exam Rules Go into Force

CDL TruckHARRISBURG - A new law, implementing new federal commercial drivers’ license requirements became effective in December of last year. Among the new requirements is that CDL exam candidates must take the skills test in a manual shift vehicle if they want to be able to drive manual shift vehicles after obtaining their license. If the skills test is taken in an automatic shift vehicle, the candidate’s license will be restricted only to automatic shift vehicles after they pass. Such licenses will carry an “E” restriction on them.

Current holders of a CDL will be grandfathered and be able to drive both manual and automatic transmissions. For more information on obtaining a CDL go to this link.
