Christopher B. Uhland
2013 Green Achiever

This year’s Green Achiever Award goes to  Christopher B. Uhland, PCH.  Uhland is the sales, marketing and customer service manager and operations/production co-adviser at Harmony Hill Nurseries in Downingtown.

A 2002 graduate of Delaware Valley Collegewith a Bachelor of Science degree in horticulture, Uhland started his career with Hansen Nurseries in Sassamansville after graduation and then spent a few years at his family farm and nursery, Three Streams Farm & Nursery near Lewistown, before joining Harmony Hill Nurseries.

Two years ago, Uhland and a few green industry colleagues of similar age founded the Young Nursery Professionals. This new organization is building a professional network for the future of the green industry. The group plans networking and educational events in conjunction with industry trade shows around the country, holding one such gathering at this year’s PANTS trade show near Philadelphia. He is the volunteer east coast director for the organization.

Christopher has been an active member of PLNA’s Government Relations Committee and recently stepped forward to represent PLNA and the green industry on the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection Agriculture Advisory Board,  succeeding Bill D. Wells, Jr. in that post.

Jim MacKenzie, president of Octoraro Native Plant Nursery and chairman of the board of PLNA said, "It’s great to see younger people in our industry stepping up and taking on leadership roles. It’s exciting that Christopher is not only taking on responsibility himself, but also organizing his colleagues to do the same.”
