Kelly Gutshall of LandStudies, Inc.
2014 Exceptional Leadership

The Exceptional Leadership Award recognizes the efforts of individuals or groups that "step up to the plate” to take on different tasks in the name of the Association. This award is open to any individual or group that has dedicated significant time or effort to advancing the "PLNA cause." The award is a piece of marble in the shape of home plate. The marble to symbolize the fact that these types of efforts are the foundation of the PLNA and continue to build the association and the shape to symbolize the fact that these individuals have stepped up to the plate in a big way. Of course the green marble is for the "Green Industry.”

Kelly Gutshall, President of LandStudies, Inc. is one of two recipients for PLNA’s 2014 Exceptional Leadership Award.

Kelly has contributed significantly to venturing into new territory with PLNA’s certification program. Kelly’s participation is with our newest certification, the Sustainable Landscape Certification; an add-on module to the PCH designation.  This certification recognizes the additional specialized knowledge about how plants can be used most effectively to provide ecosystem services that improve water quality, air quality and enhance human health and performance; Sustainable Landscapes.   When PLNA decided to implement this new module, we had only one person in mind that we knew could help make it happen and that was Kelly.  Kelly and her team have written the Study Manual for the certification and also created the exam.  In addition, PLNA will continue to work with Kelly and LandStudies to provide training  for preparation to take the exam and continuing education to maintain the certification.  The Sustainable Landscapes module would not exist without the the dedication and exceptional leadership of Kelly Gutshall to all things sustainable.
