2014 Green Achiever

The PLNA Green Achiever Award is given to recognize an individual who is relatively new to the horticulture industry and is an upcoming leader within PLNA and the industry. The winner is judged in the areas of PLNA, community, business and industry contributions. The Award was created in 1999 to pay tribute to a growing group of younger professionals who are making their mark in green the industry.

This year’s recipient is Tim McGinty. Tim is the Chief Operating Officer at North Creek Nurseries in Landenberg. A graduate of SUNY Oswego with a degree in Biology, Tim started his career as an Agricultural Field Scout and Research Assistant for Cornell University Vegetable IPM Program in Central NY.He then ventured out on his own, starting a small greenhouse operation producing vegetable crops, cut flowers and bedding plants to be sold at a local Farmers Market in upstate NY.Over the years, Tim worked for The Conard-Pyle Company as propagation manager and eventually landed with North Creek, starting as the General Manager and recently moving into the COO position.

Tim’s accomplishments at North Creek are numerous, from pioneering the employee run Fruit, Herb and Vegetable garden, creating the groundbreaking Landscape Plugproduct line unique to North Creek, establishing North Creek as the first wholesale supplier of American Beauties® Native Plants to establishing North Creek as the first Sustainable Sites Initiative(SITES) compliant nursery in the country.

A true nursery man, Tim’s work ethic is undeniable. He is dedicated to his staff and strives to create a family atmosphere between North Creek’s 5.7 acre growing facilities. Tim is a mentor in every sense of the definition, always going the extra mile to teach and share his vast horticultural, agricultural and worldly knowledge. For the industry, Tim’s keen growing practices have provided millions of healthy, well-rooted native plants to the wholesale trade and ecological restoration market. His leadership and tactical execution have fostered North Creek throughout the years and molded the company into the outstanding highly reputable growing operation that it is today.
