Bill H. Wells, Water Crest Farms Nursery
2017 Exceptional Leadership

The Exceptional Leadership Award recognizes the efforts of individuals or groups that "step up to the plate” to take on different tasks in the name of the Association. This award is open to any individual or group that has dedicated significant time or effort to advancing the "PLNA cause."

The 2017 Exceptional Leadership Award was presented to Bill H. Well of Water Crest Farms Nursery.

In 2013 PLNA went through a major transition; changing the Board makeup and the staff complement and some major programs went away.  The Board was feeling their way through the changes in 2014 and late that year there was some major Strategic Planning and a new mission statement was created along with new goals and objectives for the organization.  Bill Wells stepped up to the plate and agreed to serve as Board Chair for the first new year of this “New PLNA” – 2015.  That year definitely had its challenges and triumphs.  Bill was key in starting the PLNA MeetUp program, beginning at the grass roots level of asking the board to host a MeetUp at their location or in their region of the state.  Bill and his brother David, hosted the first PLNA MeetUp at their family business, Water Crest Farms Nursery, in West Grove and it was a success.  Since that first MeetUp, PLNA members have hosted over an additional dozen MeetUps throughout the state.

Bill continued on as Chairman for 2016; a year where PLNA publicly launched its Consumer Awareness program at the Pennsylvania State Farm Show.  PLNA participated in the Farm Show for the first time ever and had an awesome display to show off the professionalism and knowledge of the green industry.  Bill has continued his pursuit of additional Consumer Awareness with getting PLNA back to volunteering in the Gold Medal Plant Booth at the Philadelphia Flower Show.  As a Foundation Trustee, Bill has also supported providing PLNA Grant Funds to further expand on PLNA’s consumer reach.
