Carrie Wiles, North Creek Nurseries
2017 Green Achiever

The PLNA Green Achiever Award is given to recognize an individual who is relatively new to the horticulture industry and is an upcoming leader within PLNA and the industry. The winner is judged in the areas of PLNA, community, business and industry contributions. The Award was created in 1999 to pay tribute to a growing group of younger professionals who are making their mark in green the industry.

The 2017 Green Achiever was awarded to Carrie Wiles. Carrie currently serves as the Marketing Manager at North Creek Nurseries,Carrie holds a BS in Ornamental Horticulture from The Pennsylvania State University.

Upon graduation Carrie transitioned into a yearlong appointment with the Continuing Education department at Longwood Gardens. She then served as Assistant Landscape Manager and Landscape Interpretation Specialist at The Delaware Center for Horticulture (TheDCH), a non-profit community resource organization dedicated to promoting knowledge and appreciation of gardening, horticulture, and conservation. In 2006 Carrie saw an opportunity to develop her creative side and partnered with a small organic potting soil start up as a freelance graphic artist. For the past 8 years Carrie has been responsible for the horticultural and ecological marketing efforts at North Creek Nurseries. In 2013, when the Board was looking for new candidates to serve on the board, Carrie’s name was mentioned by more than one current serving board member.  Subsequently, Carrie was elected to be one of the very few non-owner individuals to serve on the PLNA Board of Directors. Fortunately for PLNA, Carrie has elected to serve a second term.  Carrie is a frequent presenter on native habitat gardening and the role natives and non-natives play within the cultural landscape.  Carrie served on the 2016 PA Farm Show display task force, hosted a MeetUp at North Creek Nurseries and served as a judge for the PLNA awards at the Philadelphia Flower Show.
