WASHINGTON, D.C. – The dynamics in
Congress are changing with respect to the Affordable Care Act, and now is the
time for you to help. Until now, Republicans have voted literally dozens
of times to fully repeal the law; most Democrats, for their part, have resisted
reopening it at all.
But now, narrower refinements and
technical fixes are beginning to be proposed. The first of those is
H.R.2575, the "Save American Workers Act." This bill would
redefine full-time employment as 40 hours per week rather than 30.
The House approved H.R.2575 this week! The bill now moves to the Senate, where its fate is less certain.
Soon, we expect the House to take up another measure altering the definition of
"seasonal" workers. Mother Nature made horticulture a seasonal
industry, and this bill may provide some measure of relief for many. Watch
for updates and a call to action when the time is right.
