HARRISBURG – The Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture has released a draft of amendments to the fertilizer bill (SB 792) introduced by Senator Alloway. This draft follows wide consultation by PDA with stakeholders, including PLNA.

New Application Rates

The new amendments tweak the application rates allowed for turf grass fertilizer from 0.9 pounds per 1,000 square feet to 1.0 pounds per 1,000 square feet among other minor adjustments.

What the Draft Doesn't Do

What the new draft does not address, however, is the cost to the industry of implementing this new regulation, nor the fact that the regulation will not improve water quality and could even make water quality in Pennsylvania worse, according to an EPA report.

PLNA is currently reviewing the new draft in detail and will have more to report in October’s e-News. In the meantime, click here to download a copy of PDA’s new draft. If you have any comments on the new draft, please email them to Gregg Robertson at PLNA.
