Riparian BufferHARRISBURG - The Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources (DCNR) and the Chesapeake Bay Foundation (CBF) have big plans for tree planting over the next eight years. Together, they plan to plant over 10 million trees in forested riparian buffers!

PLNA has been working with these groups over the past year to help them solidify their plans and help them understand how our industry works so that when they need trees, we can deliver the sizes and species they are looking for.

The species that they will be seeking will be Pennsylvania natives in sizes that will range from seedlings up to 1" caliper, both bare-root and container grown. It's unlikely that they will be looking for b&b stock due to transportation costs and planting site considerations. They may consider contract growing.

One of the directions that DCNR is exploring are trees and shrubs that can produce a cash crop and do well in riparian environments.

So that our growers better understand these plans and the business opportunities they represent, PLNA is hosting a meeting in Harrisburg on June 27, 2018 from 11:00 AM - 12:30 PM in Room 309 at the Pennsylvania Department of Agriculture headquarters, 2301 North Cameron Street.

So mark your calendars! More information will be coming later this spring. If you have any questions, call or email Gregg Robertson at 717.238.2033.
