High TunnelsHARRISBURG - Although the Governor signed two high tunnel bills in December, a third bill clarifying that high tunnels are not subject to the Uniform Construction Code (UCC), HB 1440, remains stalled on the Senate floor with no vote scheduled. HB 1440 passed the House unanimously and was reported out of the Senate Agriculture and Rural Affairs Committee unanimously without amendment last June. It needs only a vote of the full Senate to be sent to the Governor’s desk for signature.

Some local governments have recently begun to subject high tunnels to the Uniform Construction Code, requiring fire suppression sprinklers, foundations, handicapped accessibility and other requirements of the UCC.

PLNA is asking members to click here to go to the Legislative Action Center and email their state senators on HB 1440. We have prepared a letter for your convenience to your senator. You may edit the letter or send it as we have prepared it for you.

Taking action will take you only a few minutes and will make all the difference in moving this important bill forward to final passage. This bill could save you thousands in compliance costs under the Uniform Construction Code.
