Tennessee institutes Quarantine on incoming Boxwood and Related Materials

The Tennessee Department of Agriculture has instituted a Boxwood Blight quarantine at the request of production nurseries in Tennessee effective February 4, 2018.

The regulated articles include but are not limited to:

·     Boxwood plants and any material containing boxwood plants, e.g. compost, mulch, soil or waste

·     Sarcococca plants and any material containing Sarcococca plants, e.g. compost, mulch, soil, or waste; and,

·     Any equipment, shipping material, compost, mulch, soil, or waste not containing but otherwise exposed to boxwood or Sarcococca plants.

Regulated material being brought into the state of Tennessee is required to be accompanied by:

·        A phytosanitary Certificate and

·        Compliance Agreement in accordance with principles of a boxwood blight cleanliness program/A participant in the boxwood blight cleanliness program.

Any recipient of these products must notify the Tennessee Department of Agriculture 3 days prior to the expected delivery of any regulated material from outside Tennessee. The notification form requires the shipper's phytosanitary certificate number and shipper's boxwood compliance number.

The PA Department of Agriculture regional inspectors are well aware of this new quarantine. Please be sure you have obtained the appropriate phytosanitary certificate and boxwood compliance agreement if you grow/distribute any items on the list above. These documents should be supplied for all shipments within PA and now shipments to Tennessee.
