PLNA’s responsibility is to advocate for its members and to provide clarification of the state laws and directives.

At this time, per PLNA's earlier clarifications of the Governor's directives, the following businesses are deemed essential/life sustaining and you may continue to operate even if your county is included in the Stay At Home list.

Click on your business type for more information:
Landscape Services
Greenhouse, Nursery and Floriculture Production

Any decision to continue operating is at the sole discretion of the business owner. Remember the goal of the Governor’s directive – to minimize the spread of the coronavirus that causes COVID-19 in our communities. Please make your business decision based on what is best for your employees, customers and suppliers health.

Should you choose to continue to operate, we suggest that you relax attendance policies to allow any employee who is uncomfortable working to stay home and use PTO or apply for UC.

Retail Garden Centers please read the following:

PLNA has submitted a request to the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) and the Department of Agriculture to allow all garden centers to be reopened under the Governor’s COViD-19 shutdown order, providing we follow CDC recommendations for social distancing and hygiene. You may download a copy of that request by clicking here. We have not heard back, but need your help!

If you want to reopen, we suggest you submit a request for exemption directly to DCED. Some garden centers have received exemptions, some have not. Click here  for guidance on completing that waiver and additional information for contacting your state legislators.

PLNA is working with its national counterparts,AmericanHort andNational Association of Landscape Professionals (NALP) to provide you with the best resources for your green business in relation to operating during the COVID19 pandemic.

Below are FREE webinars, weblinks and downloadable fact sheets/posters for your business. Visit the COVID19 Resource page on for updates and additions to the items below.
